The Telkkämäki museum farm is the oldest remaining farm in Finland where the slash and burn culture is still practiced. Interior and exterior of the farmhouses still remain in the original style. In summertime guided tours are available.
Outokumpu is an old mining town. It has a mining and geological museum and a small activity park.
Koli, on the shores of lake Pielinen, is one of the most beautiful nature areas in Finland. A trip is easily combined with a visit to the geological museum nearby.
The Vaikkojoki river is around 50 km in length. The route comprises around forty sections of rapids and fast flowing water. The whirls of water through the rapids provide great sport for the canoe enthusiast. Local businesses also organize descents of the rapids by boat.
